Newer guy here, this was my first nearly full year of automated trading, the first couple of months were a bonanza due to the previously mentioned volatility, however as activity dropped off, my systems subsided back into paper trading mode and remained there until the end of the year. For 2010 I have been working on ways of adapting to different market conditions in a more dynamic manner, as opposed to waiting for specific conditions to prevail. Only time will tell how these ideas play out, 2009 was a hell of a year to start!
