No, it makes perfect sense. But maybe you'll understand it more broken down in to two sentances.
"Your argument specifically about "so many poor" doesn't make sense for that reason". (That reason being that there isn't a lot of severe poverty in the US.)

With the exception of your comment on the Cash for Clunkers program, very little of what you say above makes sense.
The cash for clunkers program increases the cost for cars for the poor.
Health Care "reform", forces them to buy insurance, and not just catastrophic insurance, there are lots of requirements for coverage. This increases costs for the poor as well. Yes their are subsidies for those who don't make a lot of money, but the cost is still increased for many young, healthy, poor, people.
Farm price supports increase food prices, this has more impact on the poor than on other people.
Business taxes, high taxes on skilled workers, increasing investment taxes, all hurt the economy and thus make it harder for the poor to get a decent job.
"Living wage laws", are high minimum wage laws, well above the national minimum. They price the poor and poorly skilled out of legitimate employment (and the impact of higher minimum wage laws is greatest in poor economic times like the current recession). |
