A Long Island man says a nasal cold remedy permanently robbed him of his sense of smell.

Frank Catalano's affliction has also caused him to lose more than 60 pounds because food "has lost its taste," according to a federal lawsuit.

Catalano, 57, of Huntington, said he bought Zicam Cold Remedy nasal gel swabs in January 2009. Since then, Catalano says he has totally lost his sense of smell and all enjoyment of food.

Last June, the FDA issued a warning not to use Zicam, after a study linked it to anosmia -- loss of the olfactory sense.

The company voluntarily took Zicam off the market.
