Changing War Tactics

Back during the revolutionary war both the British and Continental armies started using linear war tactics. Basically where both sides lined up and shot volleys in unison. The main reason for this was that their weapons were not accurate and they were looking to break up the other side's organization so they could be attacked with bayonets.

The continental army (that's us) started to use Guerilla tactics where they would attack and retreat and sabotage and basically function in a very mobile way. Basically, we changed the rules of engagement.

We all know who won that war.

Al Qaeda has declare war on the United States. But they have changed the rules of engagement. They don't have national boundaries, they don't wear uniforms and they don't use conventional weapons.

I believe that GWBush understood that they were trying to change the ROE on us and tried to force them to play by our rules by creating a beachhead in Iraq. And I think this was likely a good strategy. But now that we are scaling down the war effort in Iraq there are going to be a bunch of al qaeda "troops" who are looking to wage war against us. And they way they take the offensive against us is with terrorism.

Until we start treating the soldiers of al qaeda as enemy combatants, we will all be living with elevated threat levels.

We need to treat this threat as an act of war and look to take the offensive. We can't pretend that these muslims who attack us are criminals. They are not. If you ask them, they are soldiers. And we have to find a way to fight them that preserves the integrity of this country as well as the sovereignty.

Our commander in chief is in denial and I don't think he will wake up in time to thwart this threat.
