i had that happen to me once when i was traveling a lot, did exactly the same thing.... i now have a pretty expensive unlimited minutes and data plan, but will probably eventually drop that now that i have the inet phones and skype and aim (now i don't come anywhere close to using my minutes, so it's a waste) i dropped the land line several years ago and had only my cell phone, so the potential for paying for extra minutes was always there... now i use the magic jack phone (which is connected to a desktop computer downstairs, always on) and use my internet phone to make any phone calls when i'm at home and use my cell for the purpose it was designed, meaning mobile calling when i 'm on the road
