Long, long ago when I took the Windows on the World wine appreciation course (mainly to sommeliers etc but a few novices such as myself), Kevin Zraly said those monster sized and monstrously priced wines were drunk by those who had not the sophistication to appreciate them. Usually a group of "big swinging d___ks" from a bond house or similar.

Trophy bottles often are never drunk, at least that is what I've been told. They are trophy wines to show off in one's show off cellar.

It will soon be time for the Naples Winter Wine Fest. Many trophy bottles will be auctioned off. I used to go but I have not been for the past two years. The wine dinners are the best part. Chef's like Boulus and Thomas Keller presenting dinner in those 20M plus gulf-front trophy homes.

So if any of you winos are going to go, let me know. <G> MP
