When I revisit with my high school classmates in central Texas, I'm beginning to pick up on these kinds of vibes.

It's weird watching the various slogans and notions folks latch onto to deal with their anger and anxiety these days. Secession might make them feel better as a concept but if you ask them whether Texas National Guard units should stop obeying commands from the Pentagon, what would they say?

I don't see where the Sumter is in this equation, just a lot of anxious bloviating that cheapens and diverts the political debate we need. A country of stubborn, zero-sum regional factions goes nowhere fast.
