Joe,
>>>I don't know what changed over last year that would suddenly make these machines useless.<<<

Just as the interstate highway expanded to obsolete the Model T, the information highway is expanding rapidly and obsoleting a lot of technology in its way - only probably at a faster clip.

As for the 90% of humanity - most can probably live without a computer. For anyone that can possibly benefit from a computer, we should find a way to get them one that is state-of-the art.

Whether it's from AMD, Cyrix, or Intel doesn't matter. But, I doubt that AMD and Cyrix can subsidize this good deed for much longer.

>>> AMD needs to improve yields. Cyrix had a disastrous Q2, but they have recovered from that are in ok shape now, in good shape after merger with NSM.(from your next post)<<<

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

This media led low-end business model is not a viable business model for AMD, Cyrix, Intel or anyone else. It is only good to keep some journalists talking(writing) and let stock analysts live another day until they change their forecasts.

Some day a viable low-end business model will come along that will make some sense (meaning even AMD and Cyrix can earn some profits) and everyone will benefit.

Until then, most beggars will be walking.

Regards,

Mary
