Another item on Monsanto: Country-specific bans of Monsanto's MON 810 (maize) have been made or introduced in Greece, France, Germany, Austria, and Hungary. (Thailand and Brazil too.) Under the new "EU Law" or Lisbon Treaty, a country-specific ban must be justified or the country will face fines. Because GM foods are political hot buttons in Europe, these bans may devolve into political tests for the new EU government.

Many years ago, Rick and I corresponded with a scientist, then at a major Midwest university, who contended that "Roundup-ready" seed formed the basis for ecological dead zones. Although I lacked the knowledge to evaluate the argument, I never forgot that a scientist within the industry was so opposed. I'd like to hear from Jerry again.
