SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 1997-- Easy-to-Use Full-Featured SOHO Router Offers Fast Access to the
Internet and Corporate Networks
Today global networking leader 3Com Corporation (NASDAQ:COMS) announced the availability of their OfficeConnect(R) Remote Dual Analog router, a SOHO networking device that enables users to access information at the fastest speeds possible over analog lines. By combining the power of two 3Com x2(TM) (56 Kbps) modems, this new product offers users near-ISDN speeds (112 Kbps) and functionality over standard analog lines, but without the costs normally associated with maintaining digital service.
Because of its ease-of-use, 3Com's OfficeConnect Remote Dual Analog router is ideal for small- to mid-sized businesses that may not have the technical expertise to install complex products but need advanced technology to keep them competitive in today's market.
The OfficeConnect Remote Dual Analog router is ideal for those smaller businesses that do not have access to digital (ISDN) service. The new router utilizes already existing analog phone lines to give users the benefits of high speed information access.
By combining the power of two x2 modems, users can access the Internet, corporate files and other documents, share applications, conduct interactive meetings, and more at rates of up to 112 Kbps (400 Kbps with compression).
Smaller offices don't have to have technical experts on staff to implement the same technology that is used in larger corporations. Unlike competing products, the OfficeConnect Remote Dual Analog router is simple to install and simple to use, and everything a user needs to access the Internet or their corporate network is included right out of the box.
Users need only connect the unit to their computer and existing phone lines. Once done, the HTML web-based tool takes them through the configuration process. Users are usually up and running in under thirty minutes.
"With the new dual analog router, 3Com is giving smaller offices the same remote access capabilities that are available in larger corporations, but at a lower cost and in an easy-to-use form-factor. Now, smaller companies can compete with larger organizations because we're giving them a high-performance networking solution that is simple to install and use," said Sharon Studer, general manager, 3Com Remote Access Product Division, Office Access.
"The competitive benefits are tremendous because these smaller organizations can now implement applications, like e-mail and extending the LAN to remote users, that are typically found in large companies."
The OfficeConnect Remote Dual Analog router features easy set-up, allowing the unit to be configured via the unit's HTML Web-based configuration tool or a Windows-based Wizard. The product also includes IP and IPX routing protocols (bridging most others); STAC, Microsoft and Ascend compression; Network Address Translation (NAT) and Port Address Translation (PAT); DHCP server; PAP, CHAP and RADIUS security; LAN-to-LAN spoofing; Flash ROM for future software upgrades; and more.
The unit also features an integrated four-port hub, allowing four users to simultaneously connect to a single unit. In addition, users can connect a combination of standard analog devices, like fax machines and telephones, to the OfficeConnect Remote Dual Analog router, enabling maximum usage of the available PSTN lines.
This new product complements 3Com's current SOHO remote access offerings by giving users an analog solution to easily access the Internet and corporate network. 3Com's SOHO ISDN solutions include the 3ComImpact(TM) IQ modem; OfficeConnect LAN Modem; OfficeConnect remote 511, 521, 531 and OfficeConnect gateway 535.
3Com's OfficeConnect Remote Dual Analog router will begin shipping at the end of November in North America. The list price is $745 (USD).
