I just had a similar problem with Acronis. I inadvertently deleted system files and screwed up my machine. When I tried to put everything back using Acronis I was surprised that I was not able to do it. I could see the image but Acronis kept reporting an error.

I sure miss Drive image. That software saved my but many times.

I just upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and will be using the imaging capabilities that come with the os. I have Acronis v 10 but don't plan on using it.
