Even though Medicare/Medicaid is effectively single payer for a large portion of the nation and it is an utter train wreck. Putting aside for a moment the excessive per capita cost here in the US, the aggregate cost of health care for the nation is what it is. The issue is making sure that it reaches "everyone" and that "everyone" is involved in paying for it in a fair and equitable fashion. .
