ISI and their army strengthened by the largesse and all resources were diverted to counteract India.

What was there to counteract? I haven't heard of any aggressive moves by the Indian government against Pakistan.

If anything, it's been Pakistani aggression against India in Kashmir.

But I will DEFINITELY AGREE that US aid to Pakistan has been poorly accounted for. Again.. we rent (bribe) Pakistani cooperation, we don't own it.

The sign I'm looking for from that country is whether they've finally come to grips with the fact that they've created a Religious "Frankenstein" that now threatens its "creator". They created the Taliban in a cynical attempt to "neuter" Afghanistan politically and militarily so they could dedicate their full attention to India and Kashmir.

So, part of the equation in "winning" in Afghanistan is to pressure Pakistan's competing interests to recognize that the US is not willing to tolerate further indecisiveness on Pakistan's part. If that means backing a military coup, then so be it. The Pakistani military is relatively professionalized and I don't believe they desire to see the Taliban take power in their country.
