So you are like the German soldiers who didn't necessarily like the atrocities the Nazis were committing, but you are more worried about hurting the Fatherland's efforts to conquer the world than exposing the atrocities for what they are. I get it.

Did you happen to catch the History Channel documentary WWII in HD? A story was told about a group of Germans captured in N. Africa where a soldier was assigned to take them back to the base -- about 10-12 of them. This was going to take about a day.

They leave on foot, two hours later, the soldier returns, sans the Germans. Obviously, he had murdered the German soldiers. The American soldier rejoined his unit and off they went.

The man telling the story made the point that everyone in the unit knew what happened. And they knew he was guilty of murder, and they didn't "like" what happened. But it was war goddammit. They were the enemy.

The "atrocities" at Abu Ghraib were an embarrassment, but they were NOTHING. TOTALLY UNIMPORTANT. No different from what happens in prisons around the world on a daily basis and frankly, one HELL of a lot tamer.

The entire incident made our country look weak, that our nation's war effort could be brought to its knees by a minor incident like Abu Ghraib. There was no torture. There was no pain inflicted. These prisoners were subjected to F*CKING EMBARRASSMENT. Get over it.

I don't think you can name a prison in the Middle East, outside Iraq, where prisoners are treated any better, even today.
