When I found out that they are graded on how quickly they can make a sale and that they are penalized for staying on the phone too long when they've been instructed how to tell when they're not going to make a sale. Depending on how busy I am, I try my best and always note the time. I kept a guy from the LA Times on the phone for 20 minutes and he was sure he'd gotten me to sign up for a subscription. It made my day when he couldn't meet my terms. (They had a special where you got the weekday paper free and only had to pay for Sundays - the catch was you had to give your credit card and sign up right then and there. I made him go through all the sections I'd be getting and giving me a list of columnists.)
