Brazil is creating farmland in the North by chopping down rainforest, but the most desirable locations have already been converted. Moreover, destroying rainforest is not an ideal way to increase farm acreage insofar as it exacerbates the greenhouse-gas problem.

In any case, what Brazil is doing in the Amazon jungle is clearly not a solution to the dearth of farm acreage in the world as a whole, and it does not negate the crux of the thesis in #msg-26231468. Regards, Dew
