Yes, exactly. He knew he was planning a run, at least since his speech before the DNC. So, he only took positions where issues were really important to him OR politically beneficial.

The man is extreme. We've never had a president this extreme and it really isn't close. FDR was out there, and moved toward fascism as did Wilson.

Obama was headed toward fascism, but as he likes to say, "We've stepped back from the precipice" -- as his popularity has cratered. If we can stop the health care bill, that's big. Just getting rid of some of the more socialist aspects helps, but the bill needs to be killed and I think there is still a chance.
