ZDNet's NetBuyer Recognizes Leaders in Web-Driven Computer Product Sales with First Annual 'Best Buy' Awards
Gala Ceremony Honoring Winners to be Held at COMDEX, November 18, 1997
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- ZDNet's Computer Shopper NetBuyer, the largest marketplace of computer products on the Web, today announced the finalists for its first annual ''Best Buy'' Awards. The finalists represent the top computer products and manufacturers that are currently driving buyer interest and sales via the Web. The Best Buy Award finalists were selected by users of the NetBuyer site (www.netbuyer.com), who placed ''votes'' for individual computing products in the past several months by clicking through to the point of online or telephone purchasing.
NetBuyer is the largest and most successful multi-vendor shopping site on the Web. It combines comprehensive product information from its advertisers -- including nearly 100 of the top computer resellers and manufacturers in the direct marketplace -- with ZDNet's unmatched editorial, including its collection of more than 20,000 labs-generated product reviews. Favored by Web users for its ease-of-use, broad selection of products, authoritative editorial guidance and innovative comparison shopping grids, NetBuyer generates an estimated $2 million per month in product sales for its advertisers.
''Today's direct computer product buyers rely on NetBuyer for comparison shopping,'' said Al DiGuido, executive vice president for Computer Shopper magazine and NetBuyer. ''As the largest multi-vendor shopping site on the Web, NetBuyer has by far the best vantage point for monitoring Web-based buying habits. Our sophisticated Executive Summary reports, which provide detailed sales tracking information for our advertisers, also enable us to identify the most popular product categories, and the most popular products. By honoring the most successful players, the Best Buy Awards will indicate trends in direct sales on the Web and reveal what it takes to be a success in this exploding marketplace.''
According to a study Computer Shopper commissioned last September in conjunction with IntelliQuest, the direct channel is now the leading purchasing source for computer products among business buyers across virtually all product categories, with over 80% of business buyers having purchased a product direct. From all accounts, the direct market will continue to experience exponential growth.
About the Awards
See attached document for complete list of Best Buy finalists. All Best Buy award winners will be honored at a gala ceremony during COMDEX Fall on November 18, 1997.
Using its one-of-a-kind Executive Summary database, which provides a detailed summary of buying activity on the site, NetBuyer conducted a three-month analysis to determine award finalists. Top categories and best-selling products are determined by tracking individual visits to vendors ''buyer consideration'' pages, which indicate that a user has researched to the point of purchasing either online or via the phone. Following the first-annual awards, NetBuyer will begin awarding ''Best Buys'' on a monthly and annual basis.
