The reduction of US credit card debt may be structural. In the last year US credit card debt fell consistently much more than expected month after month.

US consumers may at last be waking up to what a rip off credit cards are, if they do not have the discipline to pay off their entire balance every month. With wide availability of debit cards, it is now relatively easy to live without a credit card while enjoying the convenience of plastic money without the temptation to go into debt.
