random thoughts to keep things alive.

there seemed to be more volatility in 1999/2000 than there was last year. i'm not expecting the 99/00 environment to happen again more than once in my trading lifetime, like in another 20 years. there were so many lessons learned of things which shouldn't happen, but did - here's two:

JDSU took over SDLI at a huge premium to market in stock. normally, there's some kind of retracement as the acquirer's stock drops a chunk (since they paid a huge premium) and the acquiree's gaps large (near the premium price), then they trade somewhat in tandem. well, they both basically took off and ran insanely, at least that day.

another one was YHOO - i believe the day was when the stock got added to the S&P. i watched it go in a straight line up for a large lot of the day, and on the 15 minute chart, watched as the RSI hit 100. ok, i'll short. it kept going up, RSI didn't drop from 100 (flatlined), i kept adding. took my loss at the end of the day as it never came back in.

ericp says i trade from the dark side (discretionary) which is fine with me. gotta be someone to go against all those machines...heh.
