You forgot to give your opinions on the article. The "buy american" isn't a bad idea in theory, but what might happen in many areas is the government will pay much higher prices as the will have less of a market to shop. For some industries it will be a windfall and they could raise their prices just because the government cannot go elsewhere. The VAT is a good idea, but only if they eliminate the federal income taxes for individuals, not reduce it. If it still exists in law, congress will just increase it again and again until we have two overwhelming taxes.
