Given that it is the wholesale deforestation of trees and even shrubs which is driving the desertification, reforestation is the key. It already has had significant effects in places where it has been tried. Use of wood gasification stoves is one way to solve the problem. Not only are they more efficient, they can also use lower quality fuel. Thus reducing the pressure to cut down trees and uproot bushes for fuel.
