No disagreement - just a quest for understanding. "My line of thought is that being Short Calls and Puts is not conservative for a retiree. Being one myself. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree." Do you consider a covered call being short the call? If the call was not covered by shares I would agree. As for cash secured puts - do you see any difference in the risk vs holding the shares? I would agree that covering with long put positions is very good insurance and very conservative.
