All you really need to do to know if a conservative is conservative is to see how liberals react to them. Take when the NYTimes endorsed McCain for the Republican nomination. Obviously anyone who is a conservative would take that as advice to vote against him in the primary.

Will and many other psuedo-cons (PCs) are put us as token 'conservatives' on liberal show whose hosts would experience sudden head explosion syndrome if they ever had to debate a real conservative. Psuedo-Cons also tend to be syndicated in many liberal publications.

For instance I have seen PC Will listed as conservative and socialist Molly Ivans listed as the syndicated liberal columnist. It is hardly a spectrum centered on the middle.
