Acer America Announces Support For SuperDisk Technology
OAKDALE, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 1997--
Momentum Strengthens Behind 120 MB Diskette Technology Co-Developed
by Imation
In a statement released today, Acer America Corporation has announced plans to support and integrate SuperDisk LS-120 diskette drives with mobile PC products manufactured by the company.
SuperDisk technology, a 120 MB diskette technology, was co-developed by Imation Corp. (NYSE:IMN) which manufactures and markets the Imation SuperDisk Parallel Port Drive and SuperDisk Diskette. As the only available high-capacity diskette technology that offers the ability to read and write 1.44 MB and 720 KB diskettes, SuperDisk technology was designed as the next evolution of the 1.44 MB floppy drive.
''Because notebook real estate is extremely limited, Acer chose to support SuperDisk technology due to its flexible compatibility and storage capacities,'' said Greg Nakagawa, senior director of commercial marketing, Acer. ''Every component that goes into our notebooks needs to maximize user productivity, and the SuperDisk Drive does that - it gives our customer an excellent solution for removable storage.''
Initially, Acer plans to offer SuperDisk drives as an additional product accessory with their award-winning Extensa and TravelMate notebook lines. Pricing and availability will be announced later, company officials said.
''The addition of Acer to the list of companies offering SuperDisk technology is further evidence of the growing demand for easy-to-use, backward-compatible, high-capacity storage on the desktop,'' said Ray Meifert, SuperDisk business director, Imation. ''The SuperDisk solution is particularly attractive for notebook users because the SuperDisk drive can completely replace the 1.44 drive in the same floppy bay and allow users the choice of 120 MB or 1.44 MB diskettes in one drive.'' |
