There isn't any wood in a typical hexayurt. They can be built of plywood, but foil faced building panels have a lot of advantages.

Yes, the stuff would have to be imported. But that was pretty much the case before the earthquake. The deforestation could be alleviated long term by putting a wood gasification stove into everyone's hands. They are a lot more efficient, not to mention being able to use low grade fuels. So there would be less pressure to chop down trees.

Go through the hexayurt links. The concept is much more than a tent replacement. The address cheap water disinfection, sanitation and other aspect of keeping people alive.
