Every site you use keeps track of your clicks, preferences, where you go. AOL keeps track of what you click on to show your interest and then delivers information to you according to the profile you set up by your clicks.

Have you ever noticed how Amazon recommends books in the same genre as things you've ordered through them. Buy a camera through them and they'll start delivering information about extras and accessories. Buy a mystery and they'll recommend 5 books. They'll also tell you what you've ever bought through them.

What information can you possibly put on Facebook that matters? It's no different than here on SI. Anyone can read what you post here. They don't have to be a member to see what you post. But you have to be a "friend" in order to see what you post on Facebook.

All websites keep track of who's viewing their pages and what you're interested in because of advertising. They need the statistics to get advertisers to support their website. That's why they collect the information.
