Jesse, I believe you provided a number of URLs to drilling-related web sites some time ago. That was in reference to my queries about accuracy of percussion drill logging.

Well I followed numerous links which told me how to rent a drill, or how drills work, but nothing about logging.

Poster "Ujina" on the Golden Rule thread provided a good answer to my questions. It seems that percussion drills with water flow do give a pretty accurate idea of lithology at depth, though there isn't much of a sample size to analyze. Check out his post at

I had been wondering whether the spectacular K14C results reported for a small depth range might have actually come from a VERY thin horizon, or conversely were lower grade, but became concentrated by water flow. Anyhow, it seems I was off on a tangent. Nice to get an answer though.
