LOL! . . . it was all things I could relate to far better than, say, being a part of a plot to kill Hitler.

I think "overwrought" is an excellent word to describe Revolutionary Road. Like you said it's very well acted, well made, and it hits home on many levels, but it left me feeling sad the way many of these "people that live in the suburbs are secretly and deeply unhappy" movies do. The Ice Storm and Ordinary People come to mind, maybe American Beauty as well. They all had that sad suburban texture to them.

But that's just me and what do I know? My favorite movie is Breaking Away because I can relate to the entire movie - it's almost like someone made a movie about me and my friends at age 18 and the difficulties of forging our own paths in life.

Seeing the movie now, 30 years later, I also think it's a great commentary on parenting, or lack thereof in some cases. Dave's mother and father are probably the most accurate, believable, and touching portrayal of midwestern suburban parents I've ever seen. Sorry for the ramble.
