It seems that the British were quite pleased to furl the flag and call it a day in Hong Kong and across Africa, Pakistan, India, and the rest.

They ended the empire and pulled the drawbridge up with a bang.

There is the Islamic conquering ideology still, but that's another matter. That's not Ottoman resurrection.
