You are right.

The One True Faith believers I have most trouble with are those who believe in Collectivism and individuals as serfs of the state, who are also the same people who believe in Gaia, and that Gaia is going to punish us for providing CO2 to the chlorophyll crowd. They believe that Earth is in balance and we [meaning me] are upsetting the delicate balance contrived by Gaia for the splendour of Helengrad to be writ large.

It is a belief as supernaturally based as garden variety superstitions.

You must have come across some of them in your travels around NZ.

Those True Faithers take over half my money for their Priesthood and acolytes, and to build their shrines. It's about 70% when it's all counted - don't forget all the hidden taxes, not just income tax and GST.

There is no reasoning with them. It's just faith and obedience. At least the regular religions just took 10% and left you alone 6 days a week. Even going to church on Sunday didn't involve the whole day. A few prayers, songs, a sermon, a collection then on your way with some social chit chat.

Plus ca change,
Mqurice
