Where is this sudden absolute love and respect for democracy coming from? Since when has democracy been an argument against US pursuing its interests?

Did democracy prevent US from overthrowing Mossadegh?
Did democracy prevent US from overthrowing Salvador Allende?
Hell, did the love of democracy prevent US from restoring a corrupt dictatorial monarchy to Kuwait? If we really cared about democracy as much as you claim, we would have put a decent system of checks and balances in place in Kuwait. After all, we had the whole country to ourselves with no opposition. But instead we decided that the Amir of Kuwait has been good to us so why rock the boat?

You need to take off your rose colored glasses and look at history like it really is.

So the answer to your question of "is it in our interest to sacrifice one of the few Democratic governments in the Middle East to satisfy our economic lust of for oil?" should be obvious. Why should we act out of character when it comes to Israel? What makes it so special?

As to your other contention of Israel being a democracy that shares the same values as us, let me ask you, what planet are you living on?

Israel is a personification of religious bigotry. It is the religious version of South African apartheid system. Jews who marry out of faith are frowned upon like the whites that married blacks were frowned upon in South Africa. The right to bring your gentile spouse into the country and get a citizenship for her is severely restricted. And its Arab citizens are second class citizens with nowhere near the same rights as Jewish citizens.

If you think these are the American values, then we have a fundamental difference of opinion about what those values are.
