The claim that this or that solar or other alternative technology is now or will very soon be competitive ... if we just have the will to embrace it massively is magical thinking. As the article I posted to you shows, Secretary Chu knows and has said that a number of Nobel-quality breakthroughs are needed before that happens. He joined the administration because he thought he'd be running a $15B R&D program to create these breakthroughs in future decades. Its a standard lie of yours that I'm biased towards oil only. Recognition of the problems (supply, cost, environmental) with renewables isn't a failure - its just being honest.
