Here's a thought for you, stockman. I've been thinking about this a lot recently. Maybe the US is ungovernable now.

Consider this. Prior to 2003, I would have never thought the GOP could have imploded quite like they did in 2007 and 2008. And then I would have never thought that the Dems could implode like they are doing now. Our leaders seem to be unbearably disconnected from what the people want and seem unable to tackle the most important problems in an effective way.

Maybe we've reached that era in US history where our problems are so great and the internal dissension so vitriolic that Americans won't be united in solving our big problems anymore. Maybe this is what the beginning of the era of permanent decline looks like.

I hope that's not the case.
