One issue that did not get as much traction as it could in the Mass election - National Security.

Health care, the debt, and the economy seemed to be the major topics.

The massive failure to detect or stop Umar from Nigeria, and now the processing of him as a criminal defendant - a decision evidently made without talking to the FBI, military or intelligence community - has potential to really hit the Democrats.

The Dems are close to getting stuck with the "terrorism is a law enforcement issue" decision, which is not likely to work and very likely to cause major problems.

The Dems are also colored with a lot of "political correctness" of the "Don't Let's Be Beastly to the Germans" variety...

The Maj. Nidal Hassan getting a pass because of political correctness outrage was contained by the media, but not totally.

That outrage may go in many directions, but would be likely to hit the Democrats.

****

So we could see event driven reaction which could drive a Republican massive win.
