A CEO or a President may be surrounded by advisors/experts giving him their views and conclusions, but at the end of the day he's the one who has to make the final decision.
And making that decision may be more adequate and realistic if one can call on past experience and accumulated know-how with which to back it up.

Absolutely. And consider: the President has no easy decisions to make. If it was easy, it was decided already at a lower level. The President always gets the hard decisions, which come with conflicting advice. He has to come into the office with knowledge, experience & insight and he has to know what he believes when push comes to shove.
