Labamba's problem is that he ran as a moderate left winger and tried to govern from the radical left. He attempted to claim the independent voters as part of a left wing agenda.

IOW he believed too much of his own BS. He drank his own Koolaid. America doesn't want radical change in any direction.

He has to learn that you cannot tell people what they think or what and why they voted the way they did. He also has to learn that his own spin is not to be believed by him.
