I think if you separate out programs aimed solely at the poor you have real problems making them sustainable, or getting them passed at all.

I like socialized medicine, so it's not the bugaboo to me it is to you. I'm not conflating- I merely want socialized medicine like the oldsters get. Why should they have all the fun and bennies? Even if you don't want them, you have to admit it's weird covering the old when you let the young suffer.

I don't see many people who want to give up medicare. Most people seem pretty happy with it. So you'd like to pay more, and do it on your own? Because there's no way most people could get the coverage they have for what they paid in during their working lives. Maybe you are an exception, and you actually paid full price for what you're getting- but I doubt it.
