Having people retire is ridiculous. Why should people wander around doing nothing? To build a system that encourages such wasteful behavior in the old is foolish. IMO And to have the young subsidize the old in their wanderings is more foolish yet. And socialized medicine fixes the first "problem". If everyone has the same insurance, there is no incentive to cut off any particular group from the system. Doctors, of course, should be trained the way they are in Europe- no need to have them get a 4 year degree they don't need. They should go right to medical school- that would eliminate a lot of the debt they incur. And there's no reason they should make the kind of salaries they pull down here. That's silly. In England and Europe they make a lot less. It works. I like it. And if my kids weren't committed to their schooling here, I'd leave the country. I think you are sub optimizing. What I suggest works, and I've seen it work, and I like it. What is "optimal" will vary depending on what you want.
