Using the UN when it suits your warmongering ways, dissing the UN when it doesn't agree with you.

When the UNSC passes a BINDING Chapter VII resolution, it's supposed to have the effect of international law.

That was the case with regard to Iraq.

There has NEVER been a Chapter VII UNSC resolution issued against the Israelis that they haven't implemented (that I know of).

The UNSC passed UNSC 1701 in 2006 that was a demand for a cease-fire in Lebanon:

The Resolution demands:[1]

Full cessation of hostilities (OP1)

Israel to withdraw all of its forces from Lebanon in parallel with Lebanese and UNIFIL soldiers deploying throughout the South (OP2)

Hezbollah to be disarmed (OP3)

Full control of Lebanon by the government of Lebanon (OP3)

No paramilitary forces, including (and implying) Hezbollah, will be south of the Litani River (OP8).

The Resolution at the same time also emphasizes:[1]

The need to address urgently the unconditional release of the abducted Israeli soldiers, that have given rise to the current crisis.

Israel withdrew completely, yet Hizballah is still armed and has actually has more missiles than before 2006.

Thus, so far as the Israelis should be concerned, the cease fire has failed and they may be required to implement the disarmament of Hizballah on their own.

And they will be legally entitled to do so, under that binding UNSC resolution.
