It can be "sub" if I don't think yours would work.

To sub-obtimize means to optimize some part of a system at the expense of the whole. Ineffectiveness is a very different notion. Your suggestion to keep seniors in the workforce longer would likely be effective in optimizing Medicare's finances, not ineffective. But Medicare is just a subset of the economy and optimizing it in that way would have broader repercussions.

I've seen the UK and I like their system and it works.

I think that statement well represents what happened.

The objective of the exercise for many was to update the backwards US by creating a European health care system. And, in the process, the uninsured would be taken care of. But there was a push-back against a European system.

Had the objective instead been to find a way to take care of the uninsured, perhaps incidentally resulting in a European type system, then the push-back would have been manageable because support for folks who can't get insurance is sufficiently compelling and sufficiently close to home to get sizable majorities.

Your system? Deregulation?

I was speaking to your point about physicians and I don't see disagreement. There is significant cost in regulation of professions and other licensed providers. I agree that we could turn out doctors and other practitioners faster and cheaper and thus increase the pool. You were calling for deregulation, I thought. I was agreeing with you. I just put a distasteful albeit accurate label on it.

No biggy though- neither one of us is capable of getting anything done.

You would not have been unhappy with what I would have done had I the power because I would have addressed the problem directly and found the cleanest solution.

I agree with you on the inability to get anything done and the power of corporations.
