Launch of NextLevel's Interactive Digital Cable Television System Will Enable Adelphia to Provide Digital Programming for up to 1.7 Million Homes

HATBORO, Pa., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- NextLevel Systems, Inc. (NYSE: NLV)
Broadband Networks Group today announced that Adelphia Communications has
begun commercial deployment of its interactive digital cable television system
using NextLevel Systems' MPEG-2 digital interactive system. Adelphia's
digital cable television rollout began today, with additional rollouts
continuing through year-end in more than 25 systems serving up to 1.7 million
homes.
NextLevel's complete end-to-end digital cable television solution includes
digital headend equipment and DCT-1000 real-time interactive digital consumer

guide, and 40 digital music channels provided through Music Choice.
"NextLevel offered us a complete, deployable digital platform to meet our
customers' needs today, with a smooth migration path which will allow us to
deploy the real-time interactive services of tomorrow, such as community
networking, Internet access and more," said Dan Liberatore, Vice President of
Engineering for Adelphia. "The flexibility of NextLevel's digital platform is
providing us and our customers with a robust digital platform which will
evolve with us to meet our changing needs."
"NextLevel is proud to play such a critical role in enabling Adelphia to
offer the next generation of digital cable services to their customers," said
David Robinson, Vice President and General Manager of NextLevel's Digital
Network Systems (DNS) business unit. "Our relationship with Adelphia, and the
many recent rollouts of our digital cable television platforms help to re-
affirm our position as the industry leader."
NextLevel began shipping its interactive digital systems last year. To
date, NextLevel has delivered 500,000 digital interactive terminals for
digital deployments and built digital cable TV infrastructure that passes 16
million homes. NextLevel was the first company to enter the digital set-top
market and, to date, is the only company that has delivered digital set-top
equipment in such quantities.
Adelphia Communications Corporation, founded in 1952, has grown to become
the seventh largest cable television company in the U.S., serving nearly 2
