it's too simplistic to blithely suggest that Medicaid should be expanded to take in more of the uninsured poor. Somewhat similar is the idea that Medicare should be expanded to take in uninsured 50 year olds.

I agree that it's simplistic because it doesn't reform anything. But it does have the appeal of addressing the immediate problem directly and cleanly and understandably. There's something to be said for clarity and transparency. Add portability and consumer protection and you've met your objectives re those 46 million uninsured.

I would not particularly like that solution but at least I could respect its honesty.
