Speaking of brousing - they are having one of those antique road shows here today...
I arrived just in time before my father was taking off for it, for him to ask me about his Japanese short sword, that I mentioned long ago here. They mentioned in the write up that war stuff is a 'hot' item, and he wanted to know my opinion on saling it if it would fetch a price...
for some background, they are moving to a retirement place once the house sells, so over T-day, the children and grandchildren set about putting their names on things. No one picked the sword, but it doesn't look like much and hangs by his desk (only because I took it out of the closet and hung it with his Auburn things there) and no one knows 'what' it is but me. but...
I'd already put my nephew's name on it, after mine (though I would likely pass it to him right off).
anyways, he asked me what would be a price. I said $2000. I've been working on a cabin design that is off-grid (solar, no septic) to build by the river, where the grandchildren want a place, and I could do it for $2000. A 'nicer' place could be built on the mountain with electricity and country water and a septic tank, but to do that by the river? So could have the 'nice' place on the hill, then walk or 4-wheel down to the river and stay in the cabin.
even so... I would like to build AND have the sword. but that would not be a bad trade-off? any less than that cabin, tho... I prefer the sword. |
