DJ Germany Plans G20 Meeting On Financial Oversight In Berlin

FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)--Germany plans to host a meeting of the Group of 20 leading industrial and developing nations to discuss measures for reforming financial markets regulation, a spokesman for the German Finance Ministry said Sunday, confirming a report in weekly news magazine Der Spiegel distributed ahead of publication Monday.

In the report, Der Spiegel said the meeting of the G20 is set to happen in Berlin in May and is meant to speed up the coordination process among the countries in the wake of new U.S. proposals for governing banks.

Separately, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble told Sunday paper Welt am Sonntag that the German government is pushing for internationally coordinated measures, and will make its own proposals for it. "We will bring in our own ideas into the debate," Schaeube told Welt am Sonntag. The Finance Ministry will coordinate proposals with the Chancellor Angela Merkel's office and make a proposal by spring, Schaeuble said.
