What did you read many times and what taxes are you referring to? Are you referring to income taxes and excluding the employer share of Social Security and Medicare? Then, you refer to "Their share of the overall tax take." Does "overall tax take" include "Social Security and Medicare"?

Obviously, payroll taxes have "raised" the percentage taken from individuals, and if you don't count the employer matching amounts, you get a "share" that has "fallen drastically."
