the profound historical defeat suffered by Democrats in Massachusetts I don't agree that this was a profound historical defeat. From 1991 to 2007 Massachusetts had 4 consecutive Republican governors. Ted Kennedy kept winning the Senate seat not because he was a liberal but because he was famous. People like having a famous Senator, it's kind of like having a good sports team in your city. It puts you on the map. Tom
