Does anyone buy themselves downside "protection" by purchasing an ETF that shorts the market? With the market technically weak it seems to make sense to me to counter balance the downside of our stock share prices while letting our dividends flow in.

Some examples...

Direxion Daily Large Cap Bear 3X Shrs NYSE Arca:BGZ
Direxion Daily Small Cap Bear 3X Shrs NYSE Arca:TZA
ProShares UltraShort Dow30 NYSE Arca:DXD
ProShares UltraShort S&P500 NYSE Arca:SDS

All of these are starting to turn upward on the chart.

Sorry if this has been discussed before - I'm just looking for some more insight. FWIW, I did stick my toe in the 'inverse' waters this morning.
