"We weren't talking about him. If we had been I could have said he made one also. The girl has more at risk, so imo it behooves her to be more careful, but the "mistake" is by both parties- they are both equally at fault (mistake wise), unless the situation is coercive."

That you weren't talking about him is the reason I butted in. That the girl had more at risk (in your words)is a specious argument. To suggest that she should have carried condoms in order to avoid pregnancy is totally unreasonable and as a warm blooded male,I'm sure you know that. The girl was about 17 years old and part of a very religious family that preached abstinence however truthful you may consider that. The young man was a very popular high school jock considered to be a hunk even by older women, eg his nude poses.. I've known of many situations just like that and am fully aware of the male culture in that regard. He couldn't have cared less if she got pregnant as long as he was satisfied...he's already proved this.
The fact that you consider her more at risk and therefore it was her responsibility to be more careful is something I totally disagree with. The jock took advantage of her and never intended to stand by if something happened. And I repeat he is not unusual in our culture. I would ask you to observe all the stories you hear in the future about unplanned pregnancies and see how often the male is mentioned much less considered responsible. The fact that you consider her more "at risk" is again not surprising in our culture but very wrong, IMO.

And yes, I do consider you to be unfair to her on a gender basis and the guy you were talking to who called her a slut is a total jerk. That kid probably never had sex with anyone except the hockey stud. And believe me this has nothing to do with her mother's politics...far from it.

Don't mean to be contentious, but these are my values..
