You may be right, but I thought of an example of a pre-2002 political ad that was funded by corporations, and which had a profound effect on the outcome of a major public policy debate. I'm referring to the highly deceptive "Harry and Louise" ads that helped sink the Clinton healthcare reform initiative.

I'm sure there are other good examples as well.
